This February, the Drama Club will open the curtains on Sophocles’ Oedipus the Tyrant, first performed in Athens around 429 BC. When the play begins, a plague has struck Thebes, bringing death and rendering the land barren. The people turn to their great king, Oedipus, for help, who learns from the Delphic oracle that the city is suffering from a curse; the result of harboring the murderer of the former king, Laius. Oedipus vows to discover the identity of the killer, and sets in motion an unstoppable tragedy. We are thrilled to be presenting a Greek tragedy for the first time at St. Mary’s Catholic High School!
We are also excited to let you know that we are now able to offer tickets to the show in advance. You can click here to reserve yours. The cost is $5 for students and faculty, and $7 for adults. Advance tickets will be available until the day of the first show, Thursday February 6th, at which point they will only be available at the door for $10.
Lastly, we are now offering space in our playbill for advertisements and shout-outs. Our last three shows have each sold over 500 tickets. If you would like to place an ad for your family business in the playbill, or have a message included to a friend or family member in the cast, please contact Mr. Bond at [email protected] for information on space and pricing.
We look forward to having you at the show. Please note that the content may not be suitable for children under 13 without parental guidance. The Oedipus is sometimes held up as the most perfect tragedy ever written, and deals with some mature themes. The club is honored to have the opportunity to perform this brilliant work, and to present a story that has endured millennia. If you have any questions about the production, please contact Mr. Bond.
We thank you for all your support and patronage!
